Larix Redux for Darla

DSC_0619

Darla was wondering if I had any other photos of Larix decidua ‘Horstmann’s Recurva’ that might better show off its unique signature contorted habit. Unfortunately it remains somewhat small – I think it currently tops out at approximately 1.5m in height. At maturity is is said to be slightly taller than 2.6m feet, if its leader is kept rigidly staked, with a width between 1.5-1.7m. Often mistaken for L.c ‘Diana’ it is said to be a slow growing weeping species with bizarrely contorted branches. Horstmann has also been immortalized with the sublime Abies koreana ‘Horstmann’s Silberlocke’ which I have included as the final photo.

It certainly has my attention that's for sure! I do believe this Larix adds plantsality to the garden. I love most all weeping plants. We have a weeping Youpon with various degrees of contortion, adds plantsality as well. Thank you for posting these photos.
