Forgive the fact that you cannot see the delicate pink flowers, but truthfully, its not about the flowers when it comes to Thalictrum inchangense ‘Evening Star’ a wonderful new introduction from the people at Terra Nova. Its been on my radar for the better part of a year, and it wasn’t until I attended the ORGHPS plant sale this past Sunday, was I able to score one for myself. Idle chattering had it as one of the most popular and sought after plants at the sale! Great taste my fellow gardeners! Bravo!

Truth be told, most Thalictrum  aren’t meadow flowers, as their common nomenclature ‘meadow rue’ would have one believe. This beguiling charmer is actually endemic to the moist forest ledges [elevations between 2000-6000] in the Chinese provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Shanxi, Guizhou, Liaoning, and Zhejiang.

In a partly shaded woodland garden, with average to slightly moist soil, it makes a most delightful specimen, with its quarter sized dark olive leaves, each one cast with a wonderful pewter infusion that resembles a star. Delightful sprays of traditional ‘flowers’ that resemble wonderful clusters of pink stamens are held on stems to 35cm in height, giving it an overall diminutive stature, common with most members within the ichangense species. Hardy in zones 4-8. Its on a truck bound for LittleTree before the weekend.
