What Twenty Nine Means to a Garden!

With record high temperatures this week, and we’re talking 29 C with humidex, the children of Teza’s Hortus Magnificum are a little more than confuddled!

DSC_0738 First morning I have been able to get out with the camera, and of course ‘Golden Lotus’ is the first shot! I love the warmth that sunlight’s early morning fingers brings as it gently caresses the plants as they awaken!

DSC_0726 I too am like an overly nervous parent, wondering what we are in for weather-wise in the coming weeks, what with all of the kids deciding its time to burst forth a strut their stuff. I so do love the wonderful catkinesque flowers of Corylopsis spicata, a wonderful Hazel relation from China!

DSC_0725 I’ve gleaned the importance of Spring bulbs, even when you only have space for three! The eye is immediately drawn to this intimate trio of Narcissus as soon as you walk out the door!

DSC_0728Here’s one for you Grace! [Damn it all Barnabus, where are you?]

Did I mention that I have a thing for Helleborus? This of course is Helleborus x hybridus ‘Jade Tiger’ and in the photo above is the ubiquitously popular Helleborus walhelivor, known to most as ‘Ivory Prince’. And then there is the fabulous foliage directly below that belongs to the fairest of fair within the genus, Helleborus thibetanus, a wonderfully rare beauty from China!

DSC_0733 DSC_0732 Where there were three last year, now there are five! The wonderful wine infused buds of Paeonia mlokosewitschii [Molly-the-Witch if its easier for you!] are a testament to happy soil, happy placement results in a happy plant! This of anything set me heart racing with anticipation this morning! And now I am off to the Optometrist, time for bifocals. I need to have a clear perspective on the new gardening philosophy after all! Cheers and Happy Gardening!
